MAINTENANCE SERVICING

 


Antique Radio Equipment Needs  Maintenance to Remain Operational

 


Maintenance Service consists of the following:

Phase I -- Initial Cleaning and Inspection

Clean the outside and the chassis of accumulated dust and lint
Check all tubes, if feasible
Lubricate controls, as needed
Deoxit wiper switches, as needed
Clean any existing open relays, if feasible
Inspect any fuses and insure correct value is used
Inspect all variable capacitors, lubricate as needed
Inspect for missing, cracked or damaged components
Inspect for corrosion or other age related damage
Inspect for any safety issues including faulty interlocks and damaged power cord
Tighten all loose components, fasteners, and control sleeves
Check performance of all cooling fans and interlocks, clean fans as needed

Phase II -- Bench Testing

Receiver

Power up and determine if any shorts or other severe problems exist
Check Power Supply voltages and regulation
Replace burned out dial lights, if feasible
Check frequency indication accuracy and sensitivity of all bands
Check receiver selectivity, per factory specs
Test audio for hum, strength and overall audio response range
Provide condition report

Transmitter

Power up and determine if any shorts or other severe problems exist
Check power supply for correct voltages
Replace burned out dial lights, if feasible
Test exciter/VFO output and accuracy
Test power output
Test transmitted audio quality and CW tone quality
Provide detailed condition report

Transceiver

Same as above Receiver and Transmitter tasks plus testing of T/R switching circuits

HF Amplifier

Power up and determine if any shorts or other problems exist
Check power supply for correct voltages
Replace burned out dial lights, if feasible
Determine power output
Check output quality
Provide detailed condition report

Phase III -- Maintenance Service Report

After the Maintenance Service has progressed through initial preparation and bench testing the owner will be furnished with a progress report that will include:

A checklist  of initial preparation done to include a listing of replaced tubes, dial lights and any other maintenance required replacement parts.

Statement of any discovered faults needing attention and/or recommended repairs.

Estimated cost of any recommended additional repair work.
